With their American recording debut, Shades of Purple, M2M show
they have something other teen pop acts don’t: they write and play their own music. The duo, made up of Marit Larsen
and Marion Raven, got their start back in their native Norway before they were even teenagers. They sang backup for other
Norwegian groups as well as performed in productions of The Sound of Music and Annie. They also won a Spillemansrpriset, the
Norwegian Grammy, for their first recording, a collection of Children’s songs.
Although, lyrically, the material on the disc is not deep, the songs are
catchy and their voices blend well together. The single, "Mirror, Mirror", is a catchy, light number about saying things you
regret and wanting to taken them back. The song sets the tone for the duo’s sound, a very musical one that is free of
overwhelming drums. Another great track is the lead song "Don’t Say You Love Me," about taking your time in a relationship.
The track is very acoustic guitar heavy, something you don’t always hear in teen pop. Overall, this is a nice debut
from a duo that can only get better as they age and mature.
