LeAnn Rimes is NOT a little girl anymore, and she wants to make that
very clear with her new song and video "Nothing Better to Do". The track is from her upcoming (no, really... it is getting
a release in Oct. after a couple delays) CD "Family" and has LeAnn singing about being bad. The lyrics show a bad side to
LeAnn: helping to shoplift booze, stealing cigarette money from a church collection plate, getting boys to fight over her.
LeAnn sings about doing these things because there's "nothing better to do" in a small town.
The song is a return to a more country sound for LeAnn after releasing
the pop CD "Whatever We Wanna" overseas. The music is catchy and upbeat, the perfect track to dance to and the vocals are,
as usual, great. One problem, though- LeAnn's diction in the song leaves a lot to be desired. It's hard to tell exactly what
she's singing in some parts unless you have the lyrics right in front of you. Even then, you might be scratching your head.
Still, overall it's a good track and a natural progression for her after songs like "Twisted Angel", "Destructive" and "I
Got it Bad".
The video makes the whole thing even better. In it, LeAnn is in prison,
paying for the crimes in the song. She sings to the other prisoners about what she's done and how her "momma said idle hands
are devil's handiwork. The trouble you'll get into when you've got nothing better to do". Throughout the video, you
see the other prisoners get artsy shots of them holding pictures and other things like that with cuts to LeAnn dancing Jailhouse
Rock style. She also does a few jazzy moves in here while being all done up like a 40's starlet, something that we haven't
seen from LeAnn before. The video culminates in a takeover of the jail and escape attempt that ends up failing with
LeAnn doing a silly pose for the camera while holding her head in frustration after the gates close just inches in front of
her.
Every LeAnn fan has to check this out. You'll be sure to enjoy it. Don't
forget to pick up a copy of "Family" when it finally is released on October 9th.
